Most Anticipated Films of 2019
2018 was another standout year for cinema. With a noticeable increase of representation and diversity, the future of cinema looks to be more inclusive for everyone around the world. With 2018 coming to a close, I've decided to take a look at the movies being released next year, and of course I'm looking forward to some more than I am others.
With that in mind, here are the films I am looking forward to the most in 2019. Since there are so many films being released in 2019, i've decided to go with my most anticipated film by month to cover the entire year.
So without further ado, here are my mot anticipated films of 2019, Starting out the year with...

So without further ado, here are my mot anticipated films of 2019, Starting out the year with...
January - Glass
While I haven't seen the original Unbreakable, I was a fan of M. Night Shamylan's 2016 film Split. With Glass, Shamylan gives us a unique take on the superhero genre, looking at it from the perspective of a mental illness rather than actual powers. With an interesting premise and fantastic cast, Glass promises to be one of the standouts of 2019.
February - Alita: Battle Angel
When I saw the first trailer at Alita, I thought it looked absolutley terrible. But as I have seen more of the film, I have to admit that my mind has totally changed. With baeutiful visual effects and what appears to be an emotionaly driven story, Alita looks to be one of the pleasent suprises of 2019.
March - Us
Jordan Peele's film Get Out took the world by storm in 2017. While I was a fan of the concept and thought it was well directed, I just think it was too silly for me to take it seriously. With Us, Peele promises a concept that looks both unique and absolutely terrifying. Hopefully Us will be the film I wanted Get Out to be.
April - Shazam!
Shazam! has a unique concept where a young boy can turn into a superhero just by saying a magic word. While it may seem silly, the film looks to be pretty good, promising plenty of charm, humor and most of all fun.
May - Godzilla: King of the Monsters
While I'm usually not a fan of movies where a big monster destroys the city, there's a special place in my heart set aside for Godzilla. A sequel to the 2014 reboot, King of the Monsters promises even more action and destruction. Bringing back not only Godzilla, the film will also introduce other iconic monsters from the Godzilla lore. The film looks visually stunning, action packed and promises plenty of monster action.
June - Dark Phoenix
The X-Men franchise has had it's ups and downs throughout it's long history. With most of the recent films being pretty good, hopefully Dark Phoenix will continue the streak as it retells the iconic story that 2006's X-Men: the Last Stand failed to do justice to. Despite being delayed several times, I am very much looking forward to this film.
July - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
The 9th film from director Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood takes an inside look at Hollywood in the 1960's as two struggling stars try to make their way through the changing landscape. With a great cast including the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, Tarantino's 9th film will hopefully continue his tradition of producing well-written, zany and violent films.
August - The New Mutants
After being pushed back well over a year from it's initial 2018 release date, The New mutants promises a unique horror take on the X-Men franchise that has still kept me interested. While i am concerned about the quality of the film, my interest is nonetheless still peaked.
September - It: Chapter 2
The first It film was a pretty fun horror movie with lots of creativity and some great performances. the sequel promises to be more the same as the film will explore the kids from the first film all grown up having to return to their hometown to confront It one last time. Hopefully the film will maintain the perfect balance of charm and horror that the first one did.
October - Joker
A story based around the iconic Batman villain that doesn't have Batman in it? While on paper the movie doesn't make any sense, everything that I've heard about this movie has peaked my interest. From the concept to the gritty aesthetic to the perfect casting of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker, this film is set to be the wildcard movie event of 2019, and I cannot wait to see how it turns out.
November - Terminator 6
This spot was originally reserved for Wonder woman 1984, which has moved to a new Jun release date in 2020, leaving me with my second pick: Terminator 6. While there is no official title yet, the film promises to be a return to form for the franchise after several lackluster sequels. With franchise creator James Cameron returning to produce, Deadpool's Tim Miller directing and franchise stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton returning, this new Terminator film will hopefully spark new life into a dying franchise.
December - Star Wars: Episode IX
While I have generally liked the sequel trilogy to Star Wars, there are many people who have not. It will be interesting to see how this trilogy ends, as I really do hope that the creative team will be able to make a great film that will hopefully satisfy the majority of (if not all) Star Wars fans. Nonetheless, I look forward to seeing how this trilogy will conclude.
Well there you have it: my most anticipated films of 2019. I know some of you will think I'm crazy for leaving out certain ones and including other relatively smaller films. Think what you will, but these are the ones I'm looking forward to next year. It's going to be a great year at the movies!
